posted Feb 18, 2012 7:42 PM by Patrick V   [ updated Feb 18, 2012 7:42 PM ]

Congratulations to young JORG member Jas Fisher who broke the Under 14 3000m State Record in a blistering time of 10:09, beating the previous mark of 10:14. Coach Jim Owens described Jas' feat as "awesome work!"

The record, set at the weekly Little Athletics meet, came as no surprise to those who have seen mostly the back of her in training recently! Jas's next race will be the State Championships in March, for the same distance.

Joel Too took part in the 12km Discovery Cross Country in Eldoret, Kenya, arguably one of the most competitive races in the world. Joel raced in his JORG gear and placed well in a field of 2155 runners. The World Half Marathon champion won in front of the Boston and New York Marathon champion Geoffrey Mutai, who came second.

Joel is now making plans to travel to Australia and hopes to join us in March.

The first male and female to cross the line in the 2012 Oatley Park Fun Run will receive a trip to compete in the Skilled Burnie 10, Australia's premier 10km road race*.  This is in addition to the generous cash prizes and trophies already on offer for the winners of the local fun run.

Race Director Jim Owens said it was a great prize to be able to give the winners, as both events attracted elite runners.  Entries for the Oatley Park Fun Run will open in February.

A huge congratulations to Dorothy Tanner who ran a new 'Australian Record' (Womens 70-74 years age group) with her time of 4:01:47, beating the old record of 4:03:52. Dorothy achieved this running the Chicago Marathon on 9th October. Well done Dorothy!

Closer to home, Robyn Basman ran a record time of 5:01:51 in the 1500 metres at the Australian Masters Games being held in Adelaide.  Bravo!
